Effective August 15, 2026
Terms of Service
These Terms govern use of NullPointer Exception Handler (the “Bot”) in the Hack Theory Discord server and in any other server approved to use it. By interacting with the Bot, you agree to these Terms and Discord's applicable terms and policies.
Educational purpose
The Bot provides quizzes and explanations for education, discussion, and community engagement. Content is not professional security, legal, compliance, financial, or incident-response advice. Quiz answers may be simplified for the stated scenario and should be verified before use in a real environment.
AI tutor and vulnerability alerts
AI tutor answers may be incomplete or wrong and must be checked against primary vendor or government guidance before high-impact action. Vulnerability alerts summarize public CISA catalog entries; members remain responsible for confirming asset exposure, version applicability, backups, change control, and vendor instructions.
Rewards
XP and random bonus drops are server recognition only. They have no cash value, are not transferable, require no purchase, and do not promise payment, employment, access, or a financial return.
Live tools and external links
IP, DNS, URL, and contributor results are passive context, not authorization to test a target or proof that a target is safe. Community links must not be used to mislead, identify, profile, harass, or deanonymize another person. They display the destination and tracking disclosure before redirecting and store only aggregate confirmed clicks.
CTF and path screening
CTFs are simulated educational exercises. Dynamic flags are member- and session-specific. Path-screen results are baseline learning recommendations, not professional certifications or automatic grants of trust, access, staff status, or permissions.
Verification
The verification questionnaire records a self-reported experience level, a reason for joining, and five technical answers, and presents the result to human moderators. A score is one input among several; it is not a certification, and passing it does not entitle anyone to a role, access, or staff status. Moderators decide, and they may hold, decline, or revoke access under the server's own rules. Deliberately misrepresenting your experience or background may lead to removal.
Assigned tasks
Tasks issued through /task-assign are educational exercises. Every task is written to be completed as a design, analysis, or written exercise, or in a disposable lab you control — none of them authorize you to touch a production system, a third-party system, or any asset you do not own or have written permission to work on. Your written submission and your five answers are posted to the server's private staff review channel. Tasks are not employment, a work assignment, a test of employment suitability, or a promise of any role, payment, or opportunity.
The conversational companion
In servers where it is enabled, the Bot reads recent messages in the configured general channel and occasionally posts a reply or a discussion prompt. Those replies are machine-generated, may be wrong, and do not represent Hack Theory, the server operators, or any moderator. Treat them as you would any other unverified message. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is read and what is retained.
Use in other servers
The Bot may be installed in servers other than Hack Theory, but it responds only in servers the bot owner has individually approved, and approval may be declined or withdrawn at any time for any reason, without notice and without obligation to explain. Approval is not a partnership, endorsement, warranty, or service commitment, and no availability guarantee is offered. Server operators who use the Bot are responsible for their own server's rules, moderation, disclosures, and legal obligations, and for telling their members that the companion reads the general channel where that feature is enabled.
Optional contributor access
Core courses, scheduled quizzes, safety alerts, basic live tools, security reporting, and CTFs remain free. An optional Server Contributor role may unlock convenience briefings or cosmetic recognition. Payments or donations do not purchase moderation influence, higher quiz scores, security exceptions, or guaranteed service, and any checkout is governed by the payment platform's terms.
Acceptable use
You may use the Bot only in accordance with law, Discord's rules, Hack Theory's server rules, and any authorization that applies to your security work. You must not attempt to disrupt the Bot, forge interactions, exploit its infrastructure, scrape or automate submissions, manipulate leaderboards, harass participants, or use educational material to access systems without explicit authorization.
Quiz integrity
Each member receives one answer per quiz. Attempts to evade one-answer controls, coordinate leaked answers during an active quiz, impersonate another member, or falsify results may lead to score removal or server moderation. Scenario generation and short time windows discourage simple answer lookup but cannot guarantee that outside assistance will never be used.
Availability and changes
The Bot is provided on an “as available” basis. Scheduled times are approximate, and delivery can be delayed by provider outages, rate limits, maintenance, or Discord permissions. Features, questions, schedules, scores, and commands may be changed, suspended, or discontinued without guaranteeing uninterrupted availability.
Moderation and access
Hack Theory staff may restrict access, remove scores, close quizzes, or disable the Bot when reasonably necessary for security, integrity, moderation, maintenance, or compliance. Server moderation decisions remain governed by Hack Theory's rules.
Privacy
The Privacy Policy describes the information processed by the Bot, retention periods, public leaderboard behavior, staff logs, and the /delete-my-data command.
Intellectual property
The Bot's original branding, site design, and question wording are reserved by their respective owner. Discord names and marks belong to Discord. You may quote small portions for ordinary discussion, but you may not misrepresent the Bot as your own service or publish a copied answer bank to undermine live quizzes.
Disclaimer and limitation
To the maximum extent allowed by law, the Bot is provided without warranties of accuracy, fitness, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. The operator is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the Bot.
Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be updated as the Bot evolves. The effective date will be revised, and continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Contact
For questions about these Terms, contact Hack Theory server staff through Discord. Do not send credentials or secrets.
